Characteristics of Wilhelmina Lof's Art Works

Wilhelmina Lof’s emphasizes on decorative, abstract-styled paintings with dynamic, powerfull colors, realized in mixed techniques. Applying a special bonding technique, she covers the canvas with carefully selected rag paper, which – while drying – tends to wrinkle. The resulted pattern is observed, and if possible used to accentuate the motive to be painted.
For the main stream of her werk she uses top-brand acrylics, with a favour for strong and intense pigments. Wilhelmina applies the paint in very thin layers, using her hands, brushes, sponges and palette knifes.

The result is a dynamic painting of which the color balance changes under the available light, warm in the morning light; bright under full sun shine, warm and tender at sunset. Artifical light of variable strength can be used for highlighting. The 'color coded' compositions of her works carry the spectator away into speculative or interpretative imaginations of the painting. The 'Encounter'-design series are sometimes mysterious - the rudimentary bodies are interrelated.
Through their body language, they express typical feelings like love, connection, fear or isolationism. Mainly warm and tender, these paintings show the gathering of people, their being-together, their splitting-up and a mysterious, disguised harmony between them.

The top-line in de Encounter-series is formed by the monumental Teatro-paintings, featuring cosmopolitan female figures ready to visit theatres of all sorts.
In other Encounter-type designs like 'Iris' or 'Tosca' the visuals lead the spectator to disguised horizons.
Her IRIS-designs are characterized by their  'rock-crystal'-type spread of chilly colors, which almost without notice disperse into abstracted human figures, in an esoteric and anthroposofic fashion. Very much in contrast are the Tosca-designs (nick-named after the Italian region) showing  cosy warm red and natural yellow and green color settings, sometimes giving the typical country side feeling of a peace breathing late summer evening.

The abstract Wings-designs are named after the wing-type ornaments which almost spread out over the full width of the mysterical abstract surroundings.
Painted in a dash-and-stripe fashion, the embossed wings glow up in the available light, thanks to the use of true gold particles in the used paints.
